(Miami) Argentinian football superstar Lionel Messi explained on Wednesday that he hoped to end his career at Inter Miami, without giving a specific deadline.

“Yes, today I think it will be my last club,” replied Messi during an interview to be broadcast on Wednesday on ESPN.

Messi, who will turn 37 on June 24, is expected to join defending champion Argentina as the big star of the Copa America, which will take place from June 20 to July 14 in the United States.

“I’m not ready to leave football,” added the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is under contract with Miami until 2025, after joining Florida in July 2023 from Paris SG.

“Leaving Europe to come here was a difficult step to take. But the fact of having been world champion helped me to see things differently,” said the winner of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, who did not rule out defending his title in 2026 during the edition co-organized by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

“I’ve done this my whole life. I love playing ball. I love training, the day-to-day, the games. The end of all this scares me a little bit.”
