(Mexico) Four people died in Mexico after tropical storm Alberto, which made landfall today in the north of the country, authorities said.

Three minors and an adult are among the victims of the storm which caused damage in the industrial state of Nuevo Leon (northeast), according to civil protection reports and statements by Mexican President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador .

Two children were electrocuted on Wednesday while cycling in torrential rains in the town of Allende, the president said at his daily press conference.

A teenager was swept away by water from a river in the city of Monterrey, the capital of Nuevo Leon, and an adult died Thursday morning while trying to repair the electricity at his home, according to the assessment of civil protection.

Nine people were also rescued from their homes after a water reservoir overflowed in the town of Santa Catarina, from the same source.

Storm Alberto resulted in intense rain between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, before weakening into a tropical depression.

With winds of 55 km/h, the storm is still expected to cause heavy rain in the territory of Nuevo Leon, bordering Texas, into the interior and central Mexico, according to the National Water Commission ( Conagua).

Thunderstorms and hail are possible, increasing the risk of landslides and flooding, putting Conagua on alert.
