Mohamed Camara: Monaco Midfielder Faces Four-Game Ban for Anti-Homophobia Logo Cover-Up

Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara has been handed a four-game ban for covering anti-homophobia logos on his shirt during a recent match. The 24-year-old Mali international placed white tape over the campaign logo on his chest in a game against Nantes in Ligue 1.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) decided to impose the suspension after Camara refused to participate in actions aimed at raising awareness about the fight against homophobia. France’s sports minister, Amelie Oudea-Castera, expressed support for strong sanctions against Camara for his actions.

All Ligue 1 clubs had worn the campaign logo on their kits on the final day of the season, with the competition’s emblem displaying rainbow colors as part of an initiative by the LFP. Camara had also covered up the rainbow emblem on his shirt.

In response, the Malian Football Federation issued a statement in support of Camara, emphasizing the importance of protecting players’ fundamental rights. Monaco’s chief executive, Thiago Scuro, stated that the club supports the LFP’s campaign and plans to address the situation with Camara internally.
