Published: Wednesday, June 5, 2024

Today in Bogota, the draw for the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup, Colombia 2024™ took place. It is safe to say that things will quickly get tougher for the CAF representatives in this competition.

Two years after Spain’s victory, the Women’s U-20 World Cup returns with 24 teams including four African nations: Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, and Morocco.

Making their first appearance in a World Cup of this age category, Cameroon has been placed in Group A with Colombia, the host country, Australia, and Mexico. The teammates of Naomi Eto have strong arguments and could be a surprise in this tournament.

On the other hand, Morocco will face off against the defending champions Spain, Paraguay, and the United States. Nigeria, who reached the quarter-finals in the last edition, will compete against Germany, South Korea, and Venezuela.

Lastly, Ghana’s Black Princesses will take on Japan, the 2022 finalist, Austria, and New Zealand.

It is worth noting that the top two teams from each group, as well as the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16. The tournament is set to kick off on August 31st.
