Last year, more people took advantage of the early, penalty-free old-age pension for those who had been insured for a particularly long time than in 2022. The number of those who took advantage of the pension at 63 last year was 279,000 people, as the “Rheinische Post” reports, citing current, as yet unpublished data from the German Pension Insurance.

In the previous year, there were 17,000 fewer people: in 2022, the number was still 262,000 insured people.

According to the report, the number of older workers who accepted deductions in order to retire early also increased. In 2023, 243,862 people retired early with deductions, compared to around 20,000 fewer in the previous year (223,580).
