A large chunk of ice fell from the sky onto a New Jersey couple’s backyard, causing severe damage to their home. Paul and Sabrina Gomez were sitting in their Patterson home’s backyard around 9:30 p.m. when the ice projectile unexpectedly fell, creating a hole in the roof. The couple was sitting only 12 feet away from the impact zone.

Sabrina Gomez described the incident as a hollow sound followed by a loud noise. Initially, they didn’t think much of it until the ice came crashing down. The family quickly went to the front of their house and filmed pieces of ice scattered across the driveway. Their home is located under several flight paths.

They suspect that the ice fell from a passing plane and have filed a claim with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for investigation. The FAA stated that they generally investigate reports of such incidents.

This event is reminiscent of a similar incident that occurred in Massachusetts a year ago when a 15 to 20-pound chunk of ice struck a home. Jeff Ilg and Amelia Rainville, the homeowners, believe the ice fell from an airplane heading to Boston Logan International Airport. The impact was described as an explosion, the loudest noise they had ever heard.

Incidents like these raise concerns about the safety of air travel and the potential dangers of falling debris. It is essential for authorities to investigate these occurrences thoroughly to prevent any future accidents and ensure the safety of residents living under flight paths.
