Canadians Leylah Annie Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and Rebecca Marino will compete in the National Bank Open next month, tournament director Valérie Tétreault confirmed Thursday morning.
Fernandez, who is currently 95th in the world, will be in the Montreal main draw for the second time in his career, after playing in the 2021 tournament — when the tournament was held in a reduced format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. .
For her part, Andreescu, the highest-ranked Canadian player in the main draw, will be looking for a second career title at the National Bank Open, after triumphing in 2019 in Toronto.
As for Marino, she will try to repeat her best performance in Montreal, after reaching the third round of the tournament in 2021.
Several former champions will also be back, including Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki (2010 title), who announced on June 29 that she would return to action in Montreal after a three-year absence from the circuit. The ninth racket in the world Petra Kvitova (title in 2012) and the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (title in 2017) will also be there.
The National Bank Open will take place from August 4 to 13.
