It took quite a long time to see the birth of the electric version of the full-size Ram 1500 pickup. This response to the Ford F-150 Lightning, presented in February in its final form, now wants to make up for lost time with attributes that are at least convincing presented at the New York Motor Show.

Thus, this van built on a new ladder frame will be able to travel up to 800 km thanks to its optional battery with a disproportionate capacity of 229 kWh, which is significantly higher than the 515 km claimed by Ford for its protege. The standard 168kWh battery brings the range down to a very respectable 560km.

An 800 V electrical architecture ensures the power supply and compatibility with terminals capable of reaching a charging power of 350 kW. Like the F-150 Lightning, this Ram 1500 REV can power electrical devices through panels integrated into the 7.2 kW bed and 3.6 kW front trunk.

The acceleration performance of a pickup truck remains a rather superfluous variable, it goes without saying. That said, evocative numbers can strike the imagination and attract attention. Without revealing all the technical data on its electric van, Ram claims that the most powerful version will have 654 hp at its disposal and will be able to complete a 0-100 km/h in 4.4 s. One more testimony to the superiority of the electric to move large objects excessively quickly.

This Ram REV is still a capable workhorse, with a targeted maximum towing capacity of 6,350 kg and a payload of 1,225 kg. These data place it well ahead of the F-150 Lightning. However, it will be interesting to observe the reduction in autonomy depending on the towed load. On this aspect, its direct competitor loses a lot of feathers.

The Ram 1500 REV, which will go on sale in the fall of 2024. We will have a more complete portrait of the product by then.
