(East Rutherford) Noah Igbinoghene returned a blocked field goal attempt 58 yards for the touchdown, DaRon Bland scored later in the first quarter, and the Dallas Cowboys outscored the New York Giants 40-0 on Sunday.
Tony Pollard scored two short-range touchdowns and the Cowboys had three turnovers and seven quarterback sacks against Daniel Jones.
This shutout loss was the largest margin between the two teams, surpassing the Cowboys’ 35-0 win over the Giants in 1995, also in the season opener. It was also the most impressive opening-game shutout in Cowboys history, surpassing a 38-0 shutout against the Baltimore Colts in 1978.
The Cowboys have had very little demand for their quarterback Dak Prescott, as well as their attack. They also benefited from two field goals from their new kicker Brandon Aubrey.
The 26-0 halftime margin was the fourth-largest in NFL history for a home team in the first week of activities, surpassed only by the 34-0 margin of the Philadelphia Eagles against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1988. Other games with a larger margin involved the Pittsburgh Steelers (who trailed 30-0 to the Cleveland Browns in 1989) and the Colts (27 -0 at halftime against the Los Angeles Rams) in 1954.
Pollard got his first touchdown on a one-yard play for the Cowboys in the third quarter. KaVontae Turpin added a seven-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Prescott completed 13 passes in 24 attempts for 143 yards, en route to his 11th straight victory against the Giants.
