(Las Vegas) Chandler Stephenson scored twice as the Vegas Golden Knights edged the Jets 4-1 on Thursday, knocking the Winnipeg club out in five games in the first round of the playoffs.
Stephenson first scored 50 seconds after the initial face-off.
The Jets failed to clear and Stephenson redirected a Mark Stone pass to the right mouthpiece.
He then made it 4-0 midway through the second period on the superiority. Posted in the right circle, he scored with a one-timer, following a throw-in from Stone. The latter had immediately pushed the disc towards Stephenson, after a pass from Jack Eichel.
Stone and William Karlsson scored the other goals for Vegas, which benefited from 30 saves from Laurent Brossoit.
Stone delivered his second three-pointer in the series.
Kyle Connor returned fire for the Jets, while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 21 shots.
A goal was disallowed for Pierre-Luc Dubois late in the game because Blake Wheeler had made a pass with his hand after a face-off.
The Jets’ only 5-1 win came in Game 1 of the series in Las Vegas.
The top-ranked team in the West, the Knights will have a few days off before facing Edmonton or Los Angeles.
The Oilers have a 3-2 advantage heading into Game 6 on Saturday at Los Angeles.
