Jim Nill Wins General Manager of the Year Award in NHL
NEW YORK — Jim Nill, the general manager of the Dallas Stars, has been named the recipient of the 2023-24 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award. This prestigious honor was decided through a voting process among NHL Club General Managers, as well as a panel of NHL executives, print, and broadcast media after the Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Nill, who has been with the Dallas Stars for 11 seasons, becomes the award winner for the second consecutive year, following an impressive performance that saw the team reach the Western Conference Final once again. He joins Lou Lamoriello as the only GMs to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
During the voting process, Nill received 118 voting points, with 17 first-place votes and was named on 34 of the 42 ballots as a top-three selection. Patrik Allvin of the Vancouver Canucks and Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers closely followed in second and third place, respectively.
Under Nill’s leadership, the Dallas Stars finished at the top of the Western Conference with 113 points, their highest total since their Stanley Cup-winning season in 1998-99. The team also made it to the Western Conference Final for the third time in five seasons, showcasing the success of Nill’s draft picks and strategic acquisitions.
The NHL will be announcing its 2023-24 trophy winners during pregame programming ahead of Stanley Cup Playoff games and at the 2024 NHL Awards show. Stay tuned for more updates on the winners and celebrations of excellence in the league.
