Czech Republic President Petr Pavel was admitted to a Prague hospital on Thursday after a motorcycle accident. Pavel’s injuries were “not serious,” his office said on the online service X.
The 62-year-old will therefore remain in the Prague Military University Hospital for observation for an indefinite period of time. His spokesman Vit Kolar later told public television that Pavel would spend “a few days” in the hospital without it having a significant impact on his schedule. It remains to be seen whether Pavel will be fit for a trip abroad next week.
Czech media reported that the president had an accident on a closed race track, which is why the police are not investigating the accident. Pavel is known as a passionate motorcyclist and currently rides a BMW R1200 GS motorcycle.
Shortly after taking office in March 2023, he also traveled to Germany by motorcycle for a visit. Last summer, Pavel came under fire after the media published pictures of him riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
