Residential Fire Destroys North Saanich Home in Early Morning Incident

A devastating fire broke out at a residence on the Saanich Peninsula in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in the complete destruction of the home. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Highview Terrace, prompting a response from North Saanich Fire crews, who were supported by teams from Sidney and Central Saanich.

Upon reaching the scene, the initial fire crews quickly assessed the situation and called for additional resources. Fortunately, all the occupants of the home managed to escape unharmed. In light of the intensity of the blaze, a defensive approach was adopted to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties and the nearby forest.

To tackle the fire effectively, firefighters employed 1,600 feet of high-volume hose to address challenges posed by the elevation and the lengthy driveway leading to the site of the fire. Meanwhile, a wildfire was reported in close proximity, leading to minor grass fires and the ignition of some vegetation due to the intense heat.

Despite the tragic loss of the home where the fire originated, the coordinated response from the three municipal fire departments ensured a swift and efficient deployment of resources, supplemented by the efforts of volunteers and auxiliary members. A total of 35 firefighters from the three agencies worked tirelessly at the scene for several hours.

North Saanich fire crews will maintain a presence at the site throughout the day to extinguish any remaining hot spots and conduct thorough monitoring of the area.
