The Montreal Super League of the North team has found its first leaders. Annie Larouche becomes president of the club, while former French player Marinette Pichon will be its sports director.
In a press release published Wednesday, the co-founders of the team, Isabèle Chevalier and Jean-François Crevier, are delighted that the two women “are writing with [them] this page in the history of Quebec women’s sport, and contributing to the vision of the club to establish itself as a model of innovation in Canadian football through active community involvement.”
“They will help build a solid foundation for the personal and professional growth of female athletes, while defending the club’s values of courage, integrity and diversity,” they add.
Annie Larouche was until now president of the Alliance de Montréal, a position she held since last year. She was first named vice-president of operations of the team when it was founded in 2021. Previously, she spent 25 years in the Alouettes organization, occupying various positions.
The Super Ligue du Nord team specifies that Annie Larouche will remain with the Alliance until the end of the season, July 28.
Marinette Pichon, for her part, is one of the best players in the history of French soccer, having scored 300 goals during her career. In 2020, she also held the record for the French team, men and women combined, with 81 goals in 112 appearances. After her retirement in 2007, she was the general director of FCF Juvisy Essonne (now Paris FC) from 2013 to 2017.
Established in Quebec since 2019, she was until recently general director of the LaSalle Minor Soccer Association.
