Troy Parrott shines as Excelsior face relegation
Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott showcased his talent once again as he scored a hat-trick for Excelsior in the Eredivisie relegation play-off final. Despite his impressive performance, Excelsior fell short against NAC Breda.
In the second leg of the play-off final, Excelsior found themselves trailing 6-2 on aggregate. However, Parrott’s hat-trick, along with an own goal from Boy Kemper, leveled the tie at 6-6. Unfortunately, a late goal from Casper Staring secured a 7-6 aggregate win for NAC, resulting in Excelsior’s relegation.
This wasn’t the first time Parrott had stepped up for his team. In the semi-final second leg against ADO Den Haag, he also scored a hat-trick, helping Excelsior secure a spot in the play-off final.
With 17 goals in all competitions for Excelsior this season, Parrott’s performance has not gone unnoticed. Still a Tottenham Hotspur player, he will now join the Republic of Ireland squad for upcoming friendlies against Hungary and Portugal.
In other European football news, Fiorentina claimed a 3-2 victory over Atalanta in the Serie A season finale, while Metz suffered relegation from Ligue 1 after a draw with Saint-Étienne.
