The pilot of a firefighting aircraft accidentally dumped a tonne-heavy load of water over a hotel during training flights over the sea around the Greek holiday region of Chalkidiki.
Regarding the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, the broadcaster Skai showed a video on Wednesday (May 29) in which the water can be seen falling on a headland and the hotel instead of just a little further into the sea.
“People panicked, there was some damage, but fortunately nobody was injured,” the hotelier told the broadcaster. Previously, firefighting planes had been taking on water in pairs for training purposes all afternoon and then releasing it over the sea.
The accident happened to one of the last two planes. Greek media reported that such an incident had never happened before.
