Police Investigate Possible Accomplices in New Orleans Attack
Authorities are currently investigating a devastating New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans that claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and left more than 30 others injured. The Driver’s Actions
The driver behind the attack, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas, drove a pickup truck onto a sidewalk, bypassing a police car meant to block vehicular traffic and protect revelers on Bourbon Street. Authorities revealed that Jabbar proceeded to run over pedestrians while opening fire on responding officers, resulting in injuries to 33 individuals and two officers being shot. Following a shootout with the police, Jabbar was killed, and law enforcement officials recovered a handgun, an AR-style rifle, guns, and pipe bombs from the vehicle.

The FBI is treating the New Year’s Day violence as a terrorist attack and is exploring potential links between Jabbar and terrorist organizations. Additionally, an Islamic State group flag was discovered on the vehicle’s trailer hitch, raising concerns about the presence of other individuals involved in orchestrating the attack.
