An American tourist died in a hot tub at a Mexican holiday resort and his wife was seriously injured. Authorities suspect that the couple suffered an electric shock in the hot tub, the New York Post reports.
The 43-year-old, identified by authorities only as Jorge G. from El Paso, Texas, died at around 10 p.m. at the Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Penasco, while his wife Lizette Z. suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the Sonora State Attorney’s Office, according to the El Paso Times. Lizette Z. was brought to the United States and is in critical condition, according to the broadcaster.
The woman’s burns indicated that she may have been electrocuted by faulty wiring, prosecutors said. According to the NYP, a witness said she saw the couple in the hot tub, but neither of them moved. When the witness tried to help the couple, she was electrocuted and had to call 911.
The exact cause of death has not yet been officially determined, according to the New York Post. The incident is currently being investigated.
