Documentary Exhibition Showcases Cornish Farming Families

Farmers of a Cornish peninsula are the stars of a photography exhibition as documentary photographers Colin Robins and Oliver Udy showcase more than 20 portraits of families that farm The Lizard. The exhibition, Anthology of Rural Life – Farmers of The Lizard, sets out to depict the deep connection between farmers and the land they cultivate.

The captivating exhibition will commence at Kestle Barton, a picturesque working farm above the Helford River, on 15 June. Alongside the portraits of The Lizard’s farmers, visitors will also be treated to portraits of rural individuals from across Europe.

As part of the exhibition, there will be a series of enlightening talks on food systems, farming, and land use scheduled for 20-21 July. Following the conclusion of the exhibition in September, the photographs will be preserved at Kresen Kernow, Cornwall’s esteemed archive center, serving as a significant social and historical record, according to the organizers.

The exhibition and talks have been made possible through collaborations with the Falmouth Art Gallery and The Museum of Cornish Life, Helston. For more updates on this event, follow BBC Cornwall on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram, and share your story ideas at spotlight@bbc.co.uk.
