Public service employees represented by the Union of Government Professionals of Quebec (SPGQ) approved the agreement in principle with Quebec by 95%, the union announced Friday morning.
According to the SPGQ, 83% of its 26,000 members participated in the vote.
The agreement includes a 17.4% salary increase over five years, an adjustment clause according to the consumer price index (CPI) and the addition of vacation days for people with at least 15 years of seniority.
The document also increases the maximum age for participation in the retirement plan from 69 to 71, and includes the obligation to consult the union before any change to the teleworking policy.
“A negotiation is an exercise in compromise so issues remain such as the fact that the teleworking policy remains unconventional and the absence of leave intended for victims of domestic violence. We are not giving up and we will continue our efforts with a view to the next negotiation,” he added.
The agreement in principle was reached on May 31, and was then presented to the members of the SPGQ.
The union’s previous collective agreement expired on March 31, 2023. The new employment contract is for a period of five years, and will therefore be in effect until March 31, 2028.
