A rare incident occurred in Indonesia where a 45-year-old woman was found dead inside the belly of a python that had swallowed her whole. The woman, Farida, was discovered by her husband and villagers in the village of Kalempang, in the South Sulawesi province, inside a five-meter long reticulated python. She had gone missing the previous evening, leading to a search operation by the villagers.
After searching the area, the villagers spotted a python with a bulging belly. They decided to open up the snake and found Farida’s head inside. She was fully clothed inside the serpent. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Indonesia. In recent years, several people have lost their lives after being swallowed by pythons in the country.
Last year, residents of Tinanggea district in Southeast Sulawesi killed an eight-meter python that had strangled and eaten a farmer. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-meter python in the city of Muna, also in Southeast Sulawesi. The year before that, an farmer in West Sulawesi was devoured by a four-meter python in a palm oil plantation.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers posed by large pythons in Indonesia. It is essential for residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions when encountering such reptiles in the wild. The tragic death of Farida highlights the need for greater awareness and education about wildlife conservation and safety measures in areas where pythons are prevalent.
