(Quebec) Quebec police have opened an investigation following a fire which broke out in the garage of an apartment building early Tuesday morning and which could be of criminal origin.

According to the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), firefighters went to Gauvin Avenue around 4:50 a.m. following several calls reporting black smoke and flames escaping from a garage annexed to the building.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control before the flames spread to the building, which has four apartments.

Despite everything, the electricity had to be cut off, so four residents were taken into care by the Red Cross.

At the end of a preliminary analysis, the SPVQ “has reason to believe that the fire would be criminal in nature.”

Investigators will therefore look into this case, assisted by judicial identification.
