Rafael Nadal will miss the Wimbledon tournament, as planned, preferring instead to prepare for the Paris Olympics by participating in the clay court tournament in Bastad, Sweden.
The holder of 22 career Grand Slam titles said Thursday that he wants to continue his season on clay, rather than taking the jump to the lawn in anticipation of the prestigious tournament which will be presented at the All England Club, before make a return to clay.
“We believe it is best for my body not to change the surface,” he explained in a press release.
The Summer Games will hold the men’s tennis tournament at Roland Garros starting July 27. This is the home of the French Open tennis tournament, where Nadal has won 14 career titles.
Nadal will play doubles –– with Carlos Alcaraz – and singles at the Paris Olympics.
