A glass coffee mug from the brand JoyJolt is being recalled in the United States due to reports of breakage when filled with hot liquids. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that over 100 incidents were reported, resulting in 56 injuries, with some individuals requiring surgery and stitches.
The affected product is the 16-ounce Declan single-wall glass mug, which reportedly broke at the base when exposed to hot liquids, causing burns and lacerations. A total of 580,000 mugs are included in the recall, and customers are urged to contact the importer, MM Products, or fill out a form on JoyJolt’s website to receive a full refund.
The injuries reported include 35 burns from spilled hot liquids and 21 cuts. The mugs were sold in sets of six for a price range of $20 to $25 on Amazon and the company’s website between September 2019 and May 2022. Although JoyJolt is known for its double-walled glass mugs, the recalled Declan mug features a single wall design.
While it remains unclear why the glass mugs were breaking, JoyJolt emphasized that customer safety is their top priority. The company has not provided further details on the issue at this time. In the meantime, JoyJolt continues to sell other single-walled coffee mugs that are advertised as suitable for both hot and cold beverages on Amazon and their website.
