Alicia and Herman Lopez, Gold Star parents and retired law enforcement officers, have dedicated their lives to honoring the memory of their son, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, who was killed in action in Kabul on Aug. 26, 2021. In an emotional interview with Fox News Digital, they shared their thoughts on the sacrifices made by military service members and the true meaning of “freedom isn’t free.”
Hunter Lopez, a Marine Corps member, was described by his parents as a disciplined and dedicated individual who always strived to make those around him better. He served two tours in Cuba and Jordan before being stationed at Camp Pendleton and later deployed to Bahrain and ultimately Afghanistan.
The Lopez family received an outpouring of support and donations following Hunter’s tragic death. In response, Alicia and Herman chose to start the Hunter Lopez Memorial Foundation to give back to the community and support veterans and their families. The foundation provides scholarships, sponsors families to attend Marine Corps events, and has sponsored service dogs for veterans in need.
