Rogers Signs Major Deals with NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery

Rogers Communications announced today that they have signed significant multi-year agreements with NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery to offer the most-watched entertainment and lifestyle content to Canadians on their preferred platforms.

“We are investing to provide Canadians with the most sought-after sports and entertainment content,” said Colette Watson, President of Rogers Sports & Media. “We are evolving our operations according to the preferences of the audience; we are offering them the best combination of American and Canadian content where they want to watch it. This investment also strengthens our position as a major Canadian broadcaster capable of competing with foreign streaming giants.”

In September 2024, the company will launch the Bravo channel from NBCUniversal in Canada, becoming the Canadian rights holder for English-language TV content, including new seasons of hit series from Bravo franchises. Starting in January 2025, Rogers will welcome Warner Bros. Discovery’s American lifestyle and factual content brands in English, including HGTV, The Food Network, and more.

Rogers will work with Canadian distribution partners to make the content widely accessible, allowing the public to continue following their favorite shows. The content will also be available on Citytv+, adding to the award-winning programming from Citytv, OMNI, FX, and FXX.

“With the number one sports network in Canada, these partnerships strengthen our leadership in entertainment by diversifying our media offering with some of the most iconic TV brands,” added Colette Watson.

The company’s investment in top entertainment brands and content follows a recent agreement with Comcast to offer Canadians across the country the latest award-winning Xfinity technologies. Their entertainment platform integrates live sports, entertainment, news, on-demand content, and streaming apps into a single simplified interface, allowing customers to spend more time watching content and less time searching with the award-winning voice remote and integrated interface.

Through these new American licensing agreements, Rogers will increase their investment in original Canadian content and collaborate with Canadian independent production teams. Over the past 10 years, Rogers has invested $6.9 billion in Canadian content as part of their commitment to providing the best content to Canadians.
