In Bad Oeynhausen, a young man was attacked by a group and critically injured. As FOCUS online learned, he is in an artificial coma. His companion only suffered minor injuries. The police homicide squad is investigating.

A 20-year-old man was critically injured in an altercation in Bad Oeynhausen (in the Minden-Lübbecke district). According to the public prosecutor’s office and the Bielefeld police, the young man and his 19-year-old companion got into an argument with a group of around ten men in a park on Sunday night.

The unknown men hit and kicked them. One of them then dragged the 20-year-old away from the group and continued to attack him. When witnesses alerted the police, the men fled.

As FOCUS online learned from investigators on Monday afternoon, the victim is currently in an artificial coma. The machines are to be switched off today. According to the police officer, this will then be considered a homicide. However, there are no suspects yet.

The police had previously written that the 20-year-old’s life was in acute danger due to multiple, severe head injuries. The 19-year-old suffered minor injuries. A homicide squad has begun investigations.

The 20-year-old is a relative of a high school graduate from the Ratsgymnasium Minden. The school explained this in a statement: “We were shocked to learn of the physical altercation in Bad Oeynhausen in which a relative of a high school graduate from our school was critically injured. We are deeply saddened that this festive day of graduation and the high school graduation ball has been overshadowed by these events.” Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the affected family.

According to a police statement, the group of attackers was described as follows: “Around ten people, male, southern European, around 19-20 years old, some wearing Adidas tracksuits.” The unknown man who critically injured the 20-year-old was described as “male, southern European, around 20 years old, around 176 cm tall, mustache and goatee, neon orange Adidas tracksuit jacket.”

Police are asking witnesses to come forward and are calling on suspects to turn themselves in voluntarily.
