Saddam Hussein to be featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 video game

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein will be making an appearance as an antagonist in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 video game, set to be released later this year. The game will revolve around the Gulf War conflict in the early nineties, featuring real-life actors portraying historical figures such as former US presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush, former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Hussein himself.

The reveal trailer, released on Tuesday, showcases the dark and ominous atmosphere of the game, with Hussein delivering a cryptic message: “Nothing is what it seems. But if it’s truth you seek, look in the dark.” This marks the first time Hussein will be featured in a Call of Duty game, following his previous appearance in the Soldier of Fortune series.

Activision-Blizzard, the game’s developer, is set to unveil more details about the game next month. The Gulf War, which took place between 1990 and 1991, was a significant geopolitical event that saw Hussein’s regime invade Kuwait, leading to a coalition-led intervention by the US and other countries.

Hussein, who served as the Iraqi president from 1979 to 2003, was captured by US forces following the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He was subsequently tried for crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging in 2006. The inclusion of Hussein in the Call of Duty series adds a controversial and historically significant element to the popular video game franchise.
