Serious allegations are rocking the Graz University Hospital. A neurosurgeon is said to have taken her underage daughter into the operating room and actively participated in the operation.

A doctor at the Graz University Hospital is accused of not only letting her underage daughter (13) watch an operation, but also letting her take part in it herself. This is reported by the “Krone”. The Graz public prosecutor’s office confirmed that it is investigating the doctor and other employees involved in the operation based on an anonymous complaint.

The hospital says that an investigation into the matter was initiated following an anonymous report. The hospital attributes the fact that the case was only investigated months after the operation to the fact that it only learned of the allegations in April, as the “Kleine Zeitung” reports.

“Since the allegations raised have not yet been completely refuted, two medical members of the surgical team were released from duty on May 29, 2024 until the allegations were finally clarified,” the hospital said in a statement. The operation in question “proceeded without complications.”

According to the “Professional Code of Conduct for German Doctors”, it is generally not permitted in Germany to carry out medical examinations or treatments together with persons who are not trained doctors or their professional employees.

However, the professional code of conduct allows laypersons to participate in medical procedures under certain conditions. This exception applies primarily to patients’ relatives. They may be present if it is medically justified and the patient has given their consent.
