The brand recently revealed that Sea of Thieves was the top downloaded game on PlayStation 5 in Europe and the USA/Canada region in May. This is an impressive feat, considering the game already held this position in Europe in April, while in the USA/Canada region, it was behind Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade. Sea of Thieves appears to be winning over the PlayStation audience.
It is worth noting that Grounded managed to reach the 15th spot for most downloaded games on PlayStation 5 in Europe in May, and the 12th position in the USA/Canada region. A few weeks ago, analyst Mat Piscatella revealed that Sea of Thieves was the 4th best-selling game in April 2024 and the 3rd best-selling game on PlayStation in the USA during the same month. Grounded also saw a significant boost, reaching the 9th spot for most sold games on PlayStation in April.
The success of Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 is not surprising, considering the game quickly rose to the top of pre-orders on the PlayStation Store. With such impressive numbers, it makes sense that Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, wants to bring his games to “other platforms.” This success shows the appeal of Sea of Thieves and the potential for future growth in the gaming market.
