A tragic incident occurred during a counterterrorism drill in southeastern Iran, resulting in the death of a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force. Second Brigadier General Hamid Mazandarani, who was the Commander of the Naynava Brigade in Golestan province, lost his life in an ultralight gyroplane crash in the Sirkan area of Saravan County. The crash also claimed the life of the gyroplane’s pilot, Hamed Jandaghi.

The IRGC Ground Force had been conducting the “Martyrs of Security” drills in Sistan and Baluchestan province since November 1. This tragic event comes after a recent terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan, where 10 members of Iran’s law enforcement forces lost their lives. The attack was carried out by the Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, known for its activities in the region, including abductions and attacks on civilians and police stations.

In response to the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in the region, Iran had previously launched a military operation targeting the headquarters of the Jaish al-Adl group in Pakistan through missile strikes. This latest incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by security forces in the region in their efforts to combat terrorism and maintain stability.

The loss of Brigadier General Hamid Mazandarani is a significant blow to the IRGC Ground Force and the Naynava Brigade. His dedication and service to the country will be remembered as he made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the entire IRGC community during this difficult time.

As the region continues to face security threats from terrorist groups, it is essential for authorities to remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to safeguard the lives of civilians and security personnel. The sacrifices made by individuals like Brigadier General Hamid Mazandarani highlight the ongoing need for coordinated efforts to address the root causes of terrorism and ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all residents in the region.
