In this regard, Jean-François Delfraissy is crystal clear: in the hospital, the epidemic peak has not yet passed. “It has passed in terms of contaminations but as you know now, there is always a lag of around a fortnight between contaminations and hospitalizations”, he recalls.
Several signs suggest, in the eyes of the expert, that the epidemic is likely to continue in the future. “We have been dealing with the Omicron variant, since the end of December, and with these little cousins that are B1, BA2, BA4, BA5, which are very transmissible. It shows that this virus continues to evolve and that the epidemic is not over”, he underlines.
Fortunately, continues the Chairman of the Council, the variant does not show sufficient severity to worry the authorities. “Everything collapses if we are dealing with a virus that is severe,” he warns.
