Severe Storm Hits Mid-Missouri: Damage Report

A severe storm swept through mid-Missouri on Thursday night, causing significant damage in several areas. The northeast Boone County, including Sturgeon, Hallsville, and Centralia, was hit the hardest by the fast-moving storms. The aftermath of the storm left a trail of destruction, with many trees, telephone poles, and power lines knocked down.

In Hallsville, a tree fell on a home, causing significant damage. Additionally, tree limbs covered parts of Route B, obstructing the road and posing a hazard to drivers. Local law enforcement responded to reports of downed limbs on Route B, working to clear the debris and ensure the safety of residents.

The south side of Higbee also experienced damage as a tree uprooted and fell on a home. Monica C. reported that the tree caused damage to the property, highlighting the destructive force of the storm. In Sturgeon, reports of lightning added to the chaos of the severe weather, emphasizing the intensity of the storm system.

Micah Stevens, from KOMU 8 First Alert Weather, captured the impact of the storm in Hallsville, where a trampoline was blown upside down. The storm damage in Hallsville, including at the high school parking lot, showcased the extent of the destruction caused by the severe weather.

One particularly striking incident involved a tree falling on a house in Hallsville, resulting in the collapse of the structure. The massive trees that collapsed required chainsaws for removal due to their size, indicating the scale of the cleanup efforts needed. The Boone County Fire District received numerous damage reports starting at 9:30 p.m., with road closures still in effect in Hallsville.

Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp addressed the public’s curiosity about the damage, urging caution and patience. He emphasized the importance of waiting until daylight and ensuring safety before venturing out to assess the storm’s aftermath. Despite the widespread damage, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported, highlighting the importance of preparedness and safety measures during severe weather events.
