Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan had some strong words to say about how the team performed at the end of last season. The Jaguars started off well with an 8-3 record in 2023, but things took a turn when they lost five of their last six games and missed the playoffs. Khan called this collapse an “organizational failure” during a press conference on Wednesday.

Khan’s comments came after the Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville agreed on a $1.4 billion deal to renovate the team’s stadium. While the team’s future in Jacksonville looks secure, Khan emphasized that the expectation now is to win games.

Although injuries to key players like Trevor Lawrence and Christian Kirk played a role in the team’s struggles, Khan pointed out that there were organizational failures at play as well. Despite the disappointment of last season, the Jaguars have moved forward and recently signed Lawrence to a record-breaking contract extension.

Even though the Jaguars finished the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the same 9-8 record, there were notable differences between the two years. In 2022, the team rallied late in the season to win the AFC South and even staged a remarkable comeback against the Los Angeles Chargers in the playoffs. However, in 2023, the Houston Texans took the division title, led by the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.

Looking ahead, the Jaguars are set to face the Miami Dolphins in South Florida for their season opener in September. The team’s first home game of the regular season is scheduled for September 15.
