Eddie Murphy announces that the donkey, Shrek’s faithful companion, will have his own film.

While on tour promoting Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, a sequel to the 1984 hit, Eddie Murphy told Collider journalist Steven Weintraub that he had started work on the fourth sequel to the animated film Shrek, the first part of which was released in 2001.

He also announced that a film starring the donkey, to which Murphy lends his voice, was in the works, reports People magazine. “We started making Shrek [5] four or five months ago. I recorded the first part; we will finish the film this year. I think [Shrek 5] will come out in 2025, then we’ll do the one with the donkey,” the actor said.

No representative from Universal Studios wanted to comment or confirm the news to People magazine.

Remember that Puss in Boots, to which Antonio Banderas lends his voice, was entitled to two solo films in 2011 and 2022.
