Two Germans have died in a serious traffic accident in Tuscany, Italy. According to media reports, they are a married couple aged 61 and 68 from Augsburg.

The car of the two Germans drove at high speed into a toll booth on a motorway not far from the port city of Livorno on Sunday, as a spokesman for the Italian fire service confirmed in response to a dpa inquiry. The vehicle collided with two other cars that were waiting in line at the toll booth. The occupant of one of the cars was also killed in the collision.

The car overturned and hit the toll booth, which was torn from its anchorage. Pictures showed the destruction after the impact at the toll station: cars were lying upside down on the road and the toll booth was demolished. According to the fire department, six other people were injured, including two small children. The employee who was sitting in the toll booth was uninjured, according to media reports. The exact circumstances of the accident are currently being investigated.
