(Veysonnaz) Quebec snowboarder Eliot Grondin finished fourth in the snowboard cross event of the Veysonnaz Snowboard World Cup on Thursday, while his compatriot Audrey McManiman took eighth place in the women’s event, presented at the same place.
Winner at Veysonnaz a year ago, Grondin was aiming for a second podium this season after his third place in the inaugural event, in Les Deux Alpes, France, in December.
He got off to a good start in the Grand Final and was in second position at the halfway point, before slipping to third place and then eventually to the bottom of the podium.
Grondin had reached the grand final after finishing second in each of the previous three heats.
As for McManiman, who hoped to collect a second career podium and a first this season, she won her wave in the quarterfinals.
However, she had to settle for a place in the small final after completing her heat of the semi-finals in third place.
In this small final, McManiman was second after the first split, but she had slipped two places to the next, and could not regain the lost ground.
