Sony PlayStation 5 Generation: Most Profitable Console Generation Yet
Sony has officially declared that the PlayStation 5 generation is its most profitable console generation to date. The company shared new data at its Game & Network Services Business Segment meeting, revealing that the PS5 has generated $106 billion in sales since its launch. Despite the impressive numbers, it’s important to note that half of current players are still using the PS4.
Comparing PS5 and PS4 Sales
Although the PS4 generation brought in a total of $107 billion in sales, it spanned from fiscal 2013 through fiscal 2019, giving it three more years than the PS5 generation. However, four years into the PS4’s lifecycle, it was still lagging behind where the PS5 is currently. With 56 million units sold so far, the PS5 has proven to be a lucrative venture for Sony.
Future of PlayStation 5
Even with the success of the PS5, there are rumors circulating about a potential PS5 Pro on the horizon. With 49 million active consoles per month for both the PS4 and PS5, Sony continues to see growth in software spend. As the company explores new opportunities to capitalize on its current generation, the future looks bright for PlayStation enthusiasts worldwide.
