Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has taken legal action against his own father, alleging that $12 million was stolen from him and his wife through unauthorized transfers from his father’s company, Canwood Capital, between 2018 and 2021. Despite reaching a settlement in January where James Mayfield agreed to pay back the majority of the money, Baker claims he has not received any of it. The initial payment of $250,000 was due on September 30 but was never received by Mayfield.

The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in the Austin Division of the Western District of Texas is nine pages long and outlines the alleged misconduct by Canwood Capital. The Mayfields have expressed that they had no choice but to take legal action due to the company’s failure to fulfill their obligations under the settlement agreement. Despite numerous attempts to seek clarification and repayment, the defendants have allegedly avoided providing access to their financial records and have not made any repayments.

Baker Mayfield, currently in his second season with the Buccaneers, signed a lucrative three-year, $100 million contract after proving himself on a one-year deal last year. The quarterback recently made headlines for celebrating a rushing touchdown against the New York Giants with an Italian-hand gesture as a tribute to Tommy DeVito.

Fox News Digital reached out to James Mayfield’s company for a response to the allegations, but no comment has been provided at this time. Mayfield’s legal battle with his father’s company continues as they seek to recover the allegedly misappropriated funds. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
