It’s a relief for many French retirees as inflation hits historic highs for several weeks. Basic pensions will indeed increase by 4% this August with retroactive effect to July. Usually, the adjustment of pensions does not take place until January. But Emmanuel Macron had promised anticipation during his presidential campaign.
But beware: the measure should only concern the basic diet. The managers of Agirc-Arrco, the main supplementary scheme, do not intend to modify their schedule, indeed indicates Le Parisien. The increase should therefore only take place on 1 November. A hard blow for many retirees since supplementary pensions represent up to 60% of the amount of a senior executive’s pension.
Especially since the boost should be less generous than that of the State. François Xavier-Selleret, managing director of Agirc-Arrco, reportedly mentioned at a recent meeting an increase of less than 3%.
The increase in basic pensions could also be slightly delayed, until September, indicates the economic daily Les Echos on its site. But it will normally have a retroactive effect which means concretely that the individuals concerned will not lose money.
It will indeed be necessary to discuss the bill in parliament, vote on it and then promulgate it… before checking the amounts to be paid. All this takes time, remind our colleagues.
For complementary, some pension funds have decided to follow the effort of the State, but not all. Here’s what to expect based on your supplemental plan.
