An alleged vehicle thief abandoned the 7-month-old baby who was in the car he had just stolen on the side of the road on Tuesday morning in west Montreal. The man, who is still wanted, fled after being involved in a collision around twenty minutes later.
The child, who was left on a sidewalk at the corner of Alexander Street and Gouin Boulevard West, was not injured. He was quickly taken in by witnesses as well as his family, in a state of shock, according to agent Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
Around 8:15 a.m., a call was made to 911 regarding the theft of a white Mazda 3 in Pierrefonds-Roxboro, on Alexander Street.
The suspect would have quickly realized the presence of the child in the back seat of the vehicle.
After abandoning the baby, he allegedly continued on his way for several kilometers before hitting a concrete wall near the intersection of Crémazie Boulevard and St-Urbain Street around 8:40 a.m.
The suspect, who then fled, is still being sought by the SPVM.
