(LOS ANGELES) The bodyguard of new NBA prospect Victor Wembanyama, suspected of slapping pop star Britney Spears, will not be prosecuted, Las Vegas police said Friday.
“No charges will be brought against the person involved,” law enforcement said in a statement, announcing the conclusion of their open investigation into assault and battery.
Britney Spears had filed a handrail over an incident Wednesday night outside a restaurant in Las Vegas.
She explained on Instagram on Thursday that she was slapped by a San Antonio Spurs security guard after “tapping Victor Wembanyama on the shoulder,” whom she wanted to “congratulate on his success.”
The blow “almost knocked me down and ripped my glasses off,” she said indignantly, demanding an apology from the team and the player.
Currently in Las Vegas to play his first game with the Spurs against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night, the French basketball player confirmed the incident, but assured that he only learned after the fact of the singer’s involvement.
“I felt that security had removed this person, but I don’t know with what degree of force,” the player said Thursday after training.
“I didn’t watch, I just kept walking to get dinner and have a good night out,” he added, noting that San Antonio Spurs security “briefed him” to leave. he doesn’t stop in order to avoid “causing a crowd”.
