A family doctor from Moritzburg near Dresden has been convicted in dozens of cases of forged corona certificates. The trial has been running since November 2023, and the defendant has been in custody since February 2023.
On Monday, the Dresden Regional Court sentenced the 67-year-old to two years and eight months in prison, also for fraud and violation of the weapons law. Several dozen sympathizers of the defendants interrupted the verdict with shouts, leading to tumultuous scenes in the audience. The presiding judge had the courtroom cleared and adjourned the session.
With the sentence, the criminal chamber remained below the demand of the public prosecutor, which had requested four years and ten months in prison for the woman. It considers it proven that during the Corona pandemic in 2021 and 2022, the doctor issued certificates on request at five collective appointments across Germany, according to the recipients’ information, and attested to her high criminal energy. These certificates exempted her from wearing a protective mask, from compulsory vaccination or from rapid tests using a nasal or throat swab. The defense had pleaded for acquittal and the annulment of the arrest warrant.
