A 23-year-old law student dies after eating a gummy bear laced with synthetic cannabis. She asked her dealer beforehand if it was “strong.”

According to information from the British newspaper “Mirror”, a 23-year-old law student died after consuming a single gummy bear laced with synthetic cannabinoids. She had purchased the gummy bear from an online retailer via a messaging app.

The young woman from Ilford, east London, became seriously ill after immediately consuming the gummy bear and later died in tragic circumstances from multiple cardiac arrests and brain damage caused by the toxicity of synthetic cannabinoids, a Class B drug known as “Spice.” According to the Mirror, she was admitted to Queen’s Hospital in Romford on March 29, 2022.

During the investigation into the incident, it was reported that her mother Wumi was awakened by a “loud noise” and found her daughter unconscious in her bedroom. On the evening of the tragic incident, Damilola was visited by a friend from the US with whom she had eaten the gummy candies.

The coroner, Dr Shirley Radcliffe, found that the synthetic cannabis was the cause of death. According to the Mirror report, Damilola had messaged the dealer from whom she had purchased the gummy bears the same day, asking: “Can I have two packs of 600mg gummy bears for tonight please. And are they really strong?” The dealer answered yes to both questions.

Synthetic cannabis is just a term for chemically produced substitutes that imitate the effects of others. According to RND, they are significantly more dangerous than real drugs such as marijuana, as their effects have hardly been researched.
