An inmate who escaped during transport from a court appearance in Houston, Texas, was apprehended by authorities after nearly 12 hours on the run. Joshua Nigel Thomas Sanders, 35, was found at a Houston home believed to belong to a relative, and officers used a taser to arrest him as he resisted. Two others were also arrested for hindering apprehension.
Sanders, who was originally in custody for three burglaries and unlawful possession of a weapon, managed to escape on his way back from court. He allegedly accosted a woman and attempted to steal her car, but she crashed it a few feet away. Following the crash, Sanders fled on foot and was missing until early Friday morning when he was captured.
Authorities are still investigating how Sanders was able to escape and he is now facing additional charges of aggravated robbery and escape. He is currently receiving medical treatment and will be sent back to the Harris County Jail once cleared by a doctor.
The University of Houston Downtown issued a lockdown during the search for Sanders but later gave the all-clear. Authorities had warned that Sanders should be considered armed and dangerous, although they could not confirm if he was armed with a knife during his escape.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can come with transporting inmates and the importance of ensuring their secure transfer. The swift action of the authorities in capturing Sanders demonstrates the effectiveness of law enforcement in ensuring public safety.
