A woman in Texas took action to protect herself when an armed man tried to enter her home. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Raintree Circle in DeSoto, according to local authorities. The woman called 911 to report the man in her backyard with a pistol, and she could be heard screaming as he tried to force his way into her house through the garage door.
Neighbors also called 911 to report gunshots in the area. The police responded quickly and found the woman in front of her home. She informed them that she had shot the man somewhere at the back of the house. Inside, they discovered the man, identified as Octavio Flores Mondragon, on the ground in the garage with gunshot wounds to the chest and face. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The woman explained to the officers that she had noticed a dark truck following her home from a nearby Taco Bell. The truck continued to follow her into her neighborhood and pulled into the driveway behind her car. Feeling threatened, she ran inside, called 911, and armed herself with a pistol. When Mondragon tried to enter her home, she fired multiple shots, hitting him twice.
Mondragon is facing charges of first-degree burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony. The police have not yet determined a motive for his actions.
