Saxony-Anhalt’s Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) is calling on the federal government to rethink its energy policy and migration. Not only must things be explained, but some things must also be corrected, said Haseloff before the start of the meeting of the eastern government leaders in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”.
“The entire energy transition needs to be rethought. The climate targets must be achieved, but how we achieve them needs to be reorganized,” said Haseloff. “And we will discuss this with the Chancellor. I think he has now understood that things cannot continue as they have been.”
“Due to the good mood in Germany (…) we are currently pushing aside many, many things that we have been putting off,” said Haseloff, referring to the “euphoria” during the European Football Championship. This also includes energy policy. “We are seeing, especially in our chemical regions here in central Germany, that many, many jobs are at risk due to energy prices,” said the CDU politician.
The European elections, in which the AfD received the most votes in East Germany, showed how great the people’s dissatisfaction with the federal government, but also with Europe, is. The announced measures for the energy transition have led to deep uncertainty.
Haseloff criticized migration policy as unstructured: “It is largely carried out illegally.” There must be a manageable integration policy again. The majority of people in Germany are currently not seeing this.
Haseloff is hosting the conference of the East German Prime Ministers, who will meet with Scholz on Tuesday afternoon (3 p.m.) in Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition to economic and energy policy, the heads of government of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Thuringia, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also want to discuss comprehensive medical care and the reform of nursing care insurance with the Chancellor.
