The Plante administration renewed its confidence in the leaders of the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) on Tuesday, following a critical report from the auditor general.
The document concludes that the organization carried out three times fewer inspections than expected and that the delays between the departure of one tenant and the arrival of the next were often very long.
“We still have confidence in the presidency, but also in the OMHM teams,” said Despina Sourias, in charge of health issues at the executive committee.
Ms. Sourias noted that since the Auditor General’s investigation, carried out almost 12 months ago, things had improved at the OMHM.
It is also the message of the organization itself. “The turning point began in April [2023],” said Isabelle Pépin, general director of the OMHM, who took office at the same time. In terms of inspection, “not only will we achieve our objectives, but we will make sure to catch up to have the most up-to-date portrait of our buildings possible. »
Ms. Pépin added that her teams had cleaned up her waiting list, reducing it from nearly 24,000 to some 16,000 people. The withdrawal of applications which were no longer relevant will accelerate the allocation of vacant housing, assured the OMHM.
