“Don’t go, stay with me in Turin.” These few words were enough to cause a huge commotion on board a passenger plane that was on the runway at Turin airport.

What happened? According to the Italian media “Corriere della Sera”, there was a young man on the plane who suddenly received a call from his girlfriend shortly before take-off – even though his cell phone should have been in flight mode.

She begged her loved one on the phone not to fly to Madrid as originally planned, but to stay with her in Turin – and the message did not fail to have its effect.

Although the jet was already on the runway, the engines were running and the pilot was just waiting for clearance from the tower, the passenger suddenly got up from his seat.

“Stop everything, I have to get off, I have to get off,” he shouted across the cabin and approached some stewardesses who were explaining the safety instructions to the passengers.

According to those present, there was then an argument between the passenger on the one hand and the cabin crew and one of the pilots on the other – but eventually the plane drove back to the terminal and the man was able to get off.

However, this was apparently mainly because the nervous and at the same time very determined-looking man was considered a threat to flight safety. The plane finally took off for Madrid almost 70 minutes late.

The incident had no financial consequences for the passenger, who was obviously very much in love. He is not facing a fine. Airport operator Sagat stresses: “As long as the plane has not taken off, the passenger has the right to get off again.”
