Nearly 1900 hp produced by four electric motors, 0-100 km/h in 1.8 seconds and a top speed of 412 km/h. The Rimac Nevera transcends its simple status as an electric vehicle with performance data that puts the world’s most efficient internal combustion engine supercars to shame. However, a record was missing from its list of achievements in the eyes of the small Croatian manufacturer.
Under the watchful eye of the Guinness Book of Records team, Rimac test pilot Goran Drndak reached a speed of 275 km/h… backwards. This record, quite absurd, you will agree, but very entertaining, demolishes the previous one which dates back to 2001. The Briton Darren Manning then reached 165 km/h backwards at the wheel of a Caterham 7, a small ultralight roadster. A vehicle that is the polar opposite of this Nevera.
Rimac recalls, with a touch of humor, that this record equals that of the top speed – forward, obviously – of the legendary Lamborghini Miura made in 1967. Thanks to the fact that this Nevera does not have a gearbox speeds, it can theoretically reach these 275 km/h with the same acceleration times as forward. Let’s just say that the experience must then be rather terrifying!
